I studied in Alok Vidyashram under the guidance of principal ma’am since I was a little boy and they were my most memorable days of my childhood. I remember how all my teachers used to put up with my mischiefs and would scold me like I was their own child. Today it’s been 2 whole years since I finished my high schooling from Alok and I would firstly like to thank principal ma’am and the entire school for molding me into the person I am today. I currently study BBA but I also have setup my own factory in such an early stage. Studying in Alok has helped me learn a lot about teamwork and leadership. The exposure in got in the school, be it the different inter-school competitions or the inter house competitions really helped me build the confidence and speaking power in me that I am proud of today. I was chosen as the Head Boy of our school when I was in grade 10 which made me come face to face with the responsibilities and the downside of having power. Every decision I have made till this point has always been a well thought step because when I was in school we were always taught to be quick on our feet. We were not only taught from the textbooks but our teachers gave their best to teach us from their life experiences to make me the person I am today. Lastly I would like to say I AM PROUD TO BE AN ALOKIAN.

I believe there are two kinds of people in this world. A dreamer and an achiever. Me, being the latter. Certainly, it's never wrong to have dreams but having dreams only doesn't work. Hard-work, perseverance and discipline has been the three key elements to my achievements. I was aware from a young age of the importance of education. I was fortunate enough to complete my education from reputed schools which helped me build a strong foundation for my career path. As a young girl, I wasn’t introspective enough to articulate the precise factors which drew me to a career in Dentistry. I vividly remember that I decided to be a Doctor when I was in Grade 1. Two words: curiosity and compassion. That led me to pursue my dreams in the medical field. I was privileged enough to choose between MBBS and BDS after getting ranked in my entrance exams. The decision was a no brainer. Dentistry for me, has always been a calling. I completed my BDS from Kathmandu University (KU) on (insert year). I have done many social works in rural areas of Nepal, one particularly with "Projects Abroad". I have worked in both private and government institutes. I am currently working and also preparing to get scholarships for my Master's Degree. By the virtue of the title, Doctors are trusted with sensitive information that most other people would not have access to. Patients share their deepest concerns with their Doctors in hopes of being healed. To be trusted to this extent by anybody is a great honor. Being one, for me, is the ultimate opportunity to help others. I can have an immediate positive impact on the care of my patient's dental health. My future goal is to start my own Dental Hospital and leave a mark in the Dentistry field of Nepal. No dreams is big enough if you really want it!

I was in Alok till my 10th standard. After that, I completed my HS from DAVSKVB and graduated from Calcutta University along with my diploma in Animation from MAAC, Kolkata. After my degree, I was working in India for about 3 years as Rotoscoping and Digital preparation artist. It has been 2 years since I moved back to Kathmandu. As the working environment in Kathmandu was not very pleasant I partnered and started my E-commerce web designing and development Company in India. My journey with Alok has been among one of the most memorable moments of my life. When singing the school song we sang the line "Your name will always cherish in our hearts". At that moment I did not really follow the words but when I look back I remember that amazing schooling I had.

When I enrolled in this school, there were only 8 other students. We had a small building in Sina Mangal, the year was 1994 - I was 4 years of age, and that is the beginning of my Alokian journey. Growing up I wasn’t the brightest student in my class nor was I the most obedient, however, what I did have from the very beginning was people skills, an outgoing personality and curiosity towards life. Attributes that my teachers and principal ma’am never tried to subdue; they understood that kids are sometimes going to be mischievous and they knew that all they had to do was channel that extra energy into something meaningful. How did they do that? Through meditation and the countless hours, they spent in the individual development of a child’s psyche. I moved to the US when I was 14 years old, year 2004, had spent 9 years in Alok and this is when I truly started to realize the benefits of being an Alokian. Though initially, I had problems communicating in English due to the different accents used in the US; it didn’t take me long to assimilate. You see, in Alok Vidyashram, we predominantly communicated in English, as a result, my grammar skills were in par with students from western countries; as a child having to leave a country they love to a foreign land and to be able to “fit in” is probably going to be underrated to most of you out there but trust me, it’s what saved my mental health. Today, year 2020, I recently returned from the US. Graduated in International Business, audited international hospitality chains such as Marriott and Hilton. I am currently working on bringing a “super” application to help eliminate some of the economic woes faced by the people here. Alok Vidyashram is a name synonymous to excellence and I am fortunate to be a part of our schools’ legacy. I would like to thank Principal ma’am for giving me this opportunity. I would not be where I am today, if not for you and Alok Vidyashram. Thank you, ma’am! My name is Suvesh Basnet and I’m proud to be an Alokian.
